It may be a band aide. What if we have another oil embargo like we did in the 70's? What if these countries get together and shut us down. Truth is we are a long way from developing technology that will enable us to abandon oil. If America has no oil we will not have electricity in a lot of places. Goods cannot be transported, planes can't fly, people will not work or eat. Common sense would suggest continue to develop technologies that can free us from oil period.
