Getting A Gas Card Can Save You Hundreds
With gas prices being so high, it’s important to try to get gas prices as low as possible – at least to me it is.
One of the methods to saving money on gas that I think is a no brainer is to get yourself a gas credit card ASAP.
The good ones will give you 5% cashback on all your gasoline purchases so if you’re buying gas at $3/gallon, you’ll save $.15 on every gallon – so it really only costs you $2.85/gallon. If prices are $4/gallon – you save $.20 on every gallon – you get the picture.
The trick is to make sure you get a good card and that you pay off the balance every month.
Let me say that again – make sure you pay off the balance every month!
If you don’t, well all that money you saved when filling up your tank will be out the window once you start paying interest.
So what cards are good?
Good question.
Just about every gas station on the planet offers their own brand of credit card and you’ll get cashback on every gallon of gas you get with them. The problem is that some of these guys have gotten cheap and will only give you 3% back and they’ll only give you the cashback if you fill up at one of their stations. I don’t know about you, but if I need to fill up my tank, and I see a Shell station, I’d rather fill up there than drive clear across town to fill up at the Exxon Mobil station just so I can get my 5% back – wouldn’t you?
So what’s the solution?
Simple, get the card that will give you 5% cashback at EVERY gas station you fill up at AND give you 5% cashback on maintenance costs (like oil changes.)
So does a card like that exist? Fortunately, yes. But not many, possibly only one.
I’d recommend you get the Discover Open Road Card. It gives you 5% cashback on ALL gas fillups, no matter the brand, and there’s no annual fee – plus you even get a year of 0% interest, so if in that first year you don’t pay the balance off every month (but you should anyway), it won’t matter because there’s no interest.
This is one tip to saving hundreds of dollars in gas every year that everyone should use.
Click Here To Get The Discover Open Road Card – You won’t regret it – it’s probably the easiest way to start saving money on gas.

How To Get 100 MPG With Your Hybrid Car

Gary– Your article says the Discover Open Road card will save hundreds of dollars per year, but unless I misread the disclosures, only $100 per month in gas purrchases can earn the rebate. That would equate to only $60 per year. Am I missing something?

There is an easy solution to the problem of having to charge batteries for electric cars for 4-8 hours. It would be simple to develop a battery exchange at refueling stations, much like those used for exchanging spent propane tanks for outdoor grills for filled ones. This would make it so that people could take electric cars on trips. Now that they’re beginning to develop greener batteries, there’s really no excuse not to get the infrastructure for this in place in major cities.

Discover only ‘rewards’ 5% on the first $100 spent on ‘gas’ each billing period. So don’t be fooled into thinking you are going to get 5% on all you spend on gas in any given billing period. Lenders are not in the business of giving money away, far from it, they will get in your wallet so far you will think Alien has landed and found you.

I agree .. 5% for the first $100 each month so $5/month. Filing up an SUV is almost eat that cap.. so basically not much of a reason to get that card

The Discover card only gives 5% on the first $100 per month! At todays prices that’s not an answer.

I’ll agree with many of you when you say that it isn’t the perfect gas card, however, for a lot of people it’s still going to be the best choice. Many of the other gas cards I’ve talked about on this site require excellent credit to get the card, and a lot of people email and wonder why they weren’t approved for a certain card. I’m not the credit card companies so I can’t say exactly why, but I can tell you that this card has the highest approval rating of any gas card out there, so for many people, it’s a matter of taking what you can get, which is why I still end up recommending the card – it’s an easy card to get.

As much as we use our Visa/MasterCard debit check cards, we should be able to receive cash back when using our cards to purchase gas. A 5% cash back on gas that we have purchased at the end of each month in our acct. would be nice. This also guarantees that the gas charge is instantly paid. No annual fee. No interest. No credit problems. Sound great

Well I have great credit and I want to know what the best card is. I do not want to be tied down to one gas station and I would only use it for gas and possibly groceries.

If you don’t want to be tied to one gas station, and you want a card that is not only good for gas, but groceries, then go with the Chase Freedom Card. The rebate you get for gas is only 3%, but you also get a 3% rebate on groceries – http://www.fuelsavingzone.com/freedom/

Note: The Discover Open Road card only pays you 5% back on the first 100 per month. After that, it is the standard 1% So, the max you can earn is $5.00 per month on your first $100 in gas, then it is $1.00 for every $100 you spend. Not as great of a deal…..
